Two Kerala nurses saved a passenger’s life mid-air on an Abu Dhabi flight after he suffered cardiac arrest, exemplifying quick thinking and skilled CPR under pressure. Abhijith Jees, 26, from Wayanad, and Ajeesh Nelson, 29, from Chengannur, were on Air Arabia flight 3L128 from Kochi to Abu Dhabi, starting their new nursing careers with Response Plus Medical, when the emergency unfolded just 20 minutes into the flight.
As the plane cruised over the Arabian Sea, they noticed a 34-year-old man from Thrissur slumped and unresponsive. Abhijith immediately commenced CPR while Ajeesh supported, working seamlessly alongside onboard doctor Arif Abdul Khadir, who administered IV fluids and monitored the passenger. After two rounds of CPR, the passenger regained a pulse and started breathing again.
Upon landing, airport medical teams further treated the man, who stabilized and whose family expressed profound gratitude for the nurses’ life-saving actions. RPM management commended the heroes’ composure and professionalism, underscoring the critical importance of timely CPR in cardiac emergencies.
The nurses continue their careers with renewed purpose, inspired by this extraordinary first mission. “Saving a life on the way made us realize the true meaning of this profession,” said Ajeesh.
