Sharjah International Airport, in collaboration with du, has launched the UAE first 5G indoor network, marking a significant milestone announced at GITEX Global 2025. This next-generation 5G+ technology, based on 5G-Advanced, delivers up to twice the speeds of existing 5G with much lower latency, dramatically improving connectivity across all airport terminals.
Passengers and airport staff will benefit from ultra-fast uploads, seamless video streaming, and instantaneous cloud access, enhancing overall efficiency and experience. The 5G+ network covers traditionally hard-to-reach indoor and underground areas, eliminating previous connectivity gaps.
du’s 5G+ system supports bandwidth-intensive services and next-gen smart airport applications including real-time flight information displays, automated check-in and baggage tracking, augmented reality-based indoor navigation, and Internet of Things (IoT) operational support such as predictive maintenance sensors.
Sharjah Airport Authority Chairman Ali Salem Al Midfa stated that this partnership reflects the airport’s strategy to maintain pace with digital transformation in aviation and to provide passengers with a futuristic, seamless travel environment. du CEO Fahad Al Hassawi emphasized their leadership in delivering cutting-edge telco solutions that enhance customer experiences while supporting the UAE’s goals for smart infrastructure and sustainable growth.
This deployment positions Sharjah International Airport as a smart hub and sets an international benchmark for airport connectivity and innovation.
