Saudi Arabia Social Media Rules

Saudi Arabia social media rules have become significantly stricter following sweeping new regulations announced by the General Authority of Media Regulation. The rules aim to reshape online content and protect public values by curbing bullying, misinformation, and inappropriate displays across digital platforms.

The new guidelines ban the posting of material considered bullying or mocking, as well as disclosing private family matters. Content including children or domestic workers in daily lifestyle posts is now prohibited, regardless of the context.

Misinformation and the use of obscene language are explicitly targeted, alongside content boasting about wealth such as showing money, luxury cars, or properties. The rules further prohibit flaunting lineage, tribe, or regional identity in online posts, underscoring Saudi Arabia’s intent to foster respectful and truthful digital discourse.

Regulations stretch beyond language and subject matter to appearance: clothing that exposes the body from shoulders to legs, tight attire accentuating the figure, and sheer fabrics are all banned for social media content. This is designed to maintain content quality and uphold public decency standards on Saudi-based accounts.

The authorities warned of hefty penalties for violations, sending a clear message about the consequences of ignoring these new standards, although specific punishment details were not disclosed.

This landmark move affirms the Kingdom’s determination to exert greater control over its digital landscape and steer online behaviors toward cultural alignment and responsibility as social media influencer followings continue to grow.
