Habib Ahmed, the legendary Indian hairstylist renowned for shaping the iconic looks of Indira Gandhi and Bollywood star Rekha, passed away on September 25, 2025, at the age of 84. Born in Jalalabad, Uttar Pradesh, in 1940, Habib inherited his craft from his father, Nazir Ahmed, who styled British Viceroys and India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad. Habib further honed his skills at London’s Morris School before returning to India with a mission to elevate hairstyling to an art form.

In 1983, he opened a salon at Delhi’s Lodi Hotel, attracting a clientele that included Prime Ministers, Presidents, and Bollywood icons. His most famous creations include Indira Gandhi’s half-black, half-white crown of defiance, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam’s soft silver waves, and Rekha’s sleek, sculpted hairdos. Each style told a story—of politics, power, or pure stardom.

Habib’s legacy continues through his son, Jawed Habib, who has become a celebrity stylist and salon empire-builder in his own right. Habib Ahmed wasn’t just a hairstylist; he was India’s original hair icon who turned the profession into an art form.
