Dubai autonomous transport zone initiatives accelerate as the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) inks key agreements with Emaar Properties and Al-Futtaim to establish a dedicated driverless mobility hub. The new zone, spanning Dubai Festival City and Creek Harbour, will function as a dynamic testbed for Dubai’s vision to become the world’s smartest city and global leader in next-gen sustainable transport technologies.

The signing ceremony took place at the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport 2025, attended by key figures including Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General; Mohamed Alabbar, Founder of Emaar; and Omar Abdullah Al Futtaim, Al-Futtaim Real Estate CEO. The agreements detail plans to launch autonomous transport modes including robotaxis, self-driving abras, delivery robots, and driverless shuttle buses operating within a 12 square-kilometre zone.

Festival City, Creek Harbour, and Al Jaddaf will serve as initial hubs for these cutting-edge technologies, featuring 20 km of roads served by Robobuses and Roboshuttles, 10 km of waterways navigated by autonomous Roboboats, and 3.8 km covered by delivery robots. These efforts align with Dubai’s ambitious goal of making 25 percent of all urban trips driverless by 2030.

RTA leadership emphasizes the importance of these partnerships in nurturing innovation and embedding internationally advanced mobility solutions that enhance Dubai’s sustainable transport ecosystem.
