Baidu robotaxi safety Dubai 2025 is gaining global attention after Chinese tech giant Baidu’s Apollo Go announced successful trials of its self-driving RT6 cars in key Dubai areas including Jumeirah, Dubai Festival City, and Zabeel, with zero safety incidents reported so far.

Since March 2025, Baidu has partnered with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), deploying 50 vehicles for testing by July and securing the city’s first autonomous driving test license plates and open-road permits. The testing zones cover over 400 square kilometers including some of Dubai’s busiest districts.

Baidu’s Level 4 autonomous RT6 robotaxis boast a 10-layer safety redundancy system featuring LiDAR sensors, cameras, and radars, all designed to meet GCC vehicle standards and withstand Dubai’s extreme heat. The vehicles have undergone validation in both cold and hot climates, with Dubai’s traffic and road conditions informing algorithm adjustments.

During the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport, Baidu’s Managing Director of EMEA, Liang Zhang, shared that at least 40 rides given to invited passengers required zero intervention from safety drivers, highlighting the robustness of the system ahead of the planned commercial launch in early 2026, which will feature fully driverless rides without onboard safety officers.

Dubai’s RTA envisions autonomous transport contributing to 25% of all trips by 2030, integrating robotaxis with delivery bots and autonomous marine vessels as part of a comprehensive smart mobility ecosystem. Baidu’s Dubai expansion is a strategic global launchpad beyond its extensive operations in China and growing international footprint including Abu Dhabi and Europe.
