Drunk driving pedestrian fatality UAE case resulted in a significant ruling by Dubai Court of Misdemeanour. A woman, found to be under the influence of alcohol, was convicted for causing a fatal multi-car crash in Al Qudra that led to the death of one pedestrian and injuries to two others. The court imposed a Dh10,000 fine along with Dh200,000 in blood money payable to the deceased’s family.
The accident occurred late at night when the intoxicated driver lost control of her vehicle on a two-way road, causing a chain collision involving several cars and pedestrians. The woman admitted to consuming alcohol before driving and expressed surprise at pedestrians standing in the middle of the street during police questioning.
The court held her primarily responsible due to intoxication and negligence but also noted partial fault of the surviving pedestrians who were crossing outside designated areas, thereby increasing risk. In addition to the monetary penalties, the driver was made liable for all vehicle damages resulting from the collision.
This case underscores the UAE’s serious stance on drunk driving and the legal and financial consequences faced by offenders, emphasizing the importance of road safety and caution.
