As his diplomatic mission concludes, Ambassador Sunjay Sudhir bid a warm farewell to the UAE, reflecting fondly on the progress made under his tenure. He praised the deepening India-UAE ties, highlighting cultural harmony, enhanced economic cooperation, and the significant contributions of India’s diaspora in the Emirates.
The farewell event, held at the Guru Nanak Darbar Gurudwara in Jebel Ali, brought together community members, dignitaries, and well-wishers to honour his service. Sudhir acknowledged the Gurudwara’s role not only as a place of worship but as a symbol of unity, service, and shared values between India and the UAE. He also lauded UAE’s interfaith harmony, citing institutions like the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi alongside Sikh and Hindu places of worship as examples of inclusive spirit.
Sudhir, an Indian Foreign Service officer since 1993, assumed his role in 2021. As he prepares to retire, he reflected on achievements during his term: streamlined trade, cultural exchanges, improved consular service, and cooperative initiatives under the India-UAE CEPA agreement. These, he said, have significantly enhanced India-UAE ties, creating stronger bonds in education, commerce, and people-to-people connections.
The ambassador also expressed deep gratitude to the Indian community in the UAE for their support and participation in strengthening bilateral relations. As he steps down, Sudhir leaves behind a legacy of goodwill, cooperation, and landmark diplomatic milestones.
