Abu Dhabi Municipality reports that it maintains an impressive 95 million square meters of roads and infrastructure each year through five specialized departments and around-the-clock field teams. The extensive efforts include resurfacing roads, upgrading sidewalks, and ensuring the city’s transport network adheres to the highest international safety, efficiency, and sustainability standards.

The municipality’s Road Maintenance Section handles routine and emergency repairs of over 10 million square meters of parking and service roads annually, along with over 22,000 kilometers of roads—equivalent to 66 million square meters of paved surface. Over 19 million square meters of sidewalks are also maintained, ensuring the city remains accessible and safe.

In addition, the Facilities Maintenance Section oversees 214 bridges, 33 vehicle tunnels, 25 pedestrian bridges, and 38 underpasses to facilitate smooth traffic flow and safeguard pedestrians. The Stormwater Drainage Section manages a network exceeding 8,500 kilometers, supported by more than 100 pumping stations to prevent flooding during rainfall.

Lighting infrastructure is also a priority, with over 195,000 energy-efficient lighting poles maintained to enhance visibility and reduce energy consumption. The Roads Defects Maintenance Section swiftly responds to potholes, cracks, damaged signs, and other safety hazards through daily operations.

These ongoing maintenance initiatives demonstrate Abu Dhabi’s commitment to creating a resilient, sustainable, and flood-resistant urban environment that prioritizes the safety and convenience of all residents.
