These routes make Etihad the only airline connecting the GCC directly to Sumatra and Cambodia’s capital, reflecting the UAE national carrier’s strategic focus on growing ties with Southeast Asia.
The inaugural flight to Medan landed on October 2, followed by the first flight to Phnom Penh on October 3, with both routes fully booked due to strong demand. Etihad’s global network now spans 83 destinations worldwide.
Medan serves as a gateway to Indonesia’s scenic North Sumatra, home to Lake Toba—world’s largest volcanic lake and UNESCO Geopark—alongside rich rainforests and unique wildlife. Medan is also an emerging economic hub linking the Middle East with Asia, Europe, and Africa.
Phnom Penh brings travellers to Cambodia’s vibrant capital, with attractions including the Royal Palace, riverside markets, and gateway access to the Angkor Wat temple complex. The airline offers four weekly flights, increasing to six weekly from November 2025.
Both routes operate aboard Etihad’s latest Airbus A321LR, featuring three cabin classes and the airline’s first narrowbody First Suites—exclusive enclosed spaces with fully flat beds and personalised service.
These additions are part of Etihad’s broader 2025-2026 expansion strategy, with 30 new routes announced, bolstering Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub linking the GCC and Asia.
