Salah Egypt 2026 World Cup qualification was sealed emphatically as Liverpool’s star forward netted twice in Egypt’s 3-0 triumph over Djibouti in Casablanca. The 33-year-old scored nine times in the marathon qualifying campaign that began two years ago. With this win, Egypt gained an unassailable five-point lead atop Group A with one round left.
Twice African Footballer of the Year, Salah helped Liverpool capture their 20th Premier League title last season, finishing as the Golden Boot winner with 29 goals. Despite a slow start at club level this season, his international form has been pivotal.
Ibrahim Adel opened scoring for Egypt in the 8th minute, followed by Salah’s goals in the 14th and 84th minutes. Egypt now prepares for the World Cup, marking their fourth qualification appearance after 1934, 1990, and 2018.
Elsewhere, Ghana is close to qualifying, while Cape Verde and Cameroon contend fiercely in Group D. Cape Verde aims for its first World Cup appearance with a slender lead over Cameroon, who have a record eight African World Cup participations.
Egypt heads toward the North American 2026 World Cup with hopes to improve on previous performances, aiming to make a historic impact on football’s biggest stage.
