Google 15 billion AI hub India marks a landmark phase in global AI infrastructure as tech giant Google announces its largest-ever investment outside the U.S., committing $15 billion to build a gigawatt-scale AI hub in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The announcement was made at the ‘Bharat AI Shakti’ event in New Delhi by CEO Sundar Pichai and accompanied by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The ambitious project combines massive compute capacity, a new international subsea cable gateway, and large-scale energy infrastructure to support AI-driven innovation across industries and users throughout India. The facility will form a key part of Google’s global AI network spanning 12 countries.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian emphasized the hub’s role as a digital backbone improving connectivity and cloud ecosystems while advancing India’s technological leadership. The project aims to create over 100,000 jobs and foster Indo-U.S. tech cooperation.
India’s position as a growing digital economy with vast internet users and affordable data rates has attracted this significant investment, expected to accelerate AI adoption, research, and cloud services in the region.
