Indian composer Ilaiyaraaja’s music studio in T. Nagar, Chennai, received a hoax bomb threat email on October 15, 2025. The email, also sent to the office of the Director General of Police, claimed that an explosive device had been planted at the location. In response, security personnel and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) conducted a thorough search of the premises. No explosives were found, and the threat was confirmed to be a hoax.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of similar threats targeting prominent figures in Tamil cinema. Recently, actors Vijay, Trisha, and Nayanthara have each received fake bomb warnings at their residences in Chennai, leading to temporary lockdowns and heightened security measures. In Vijay’s case, the threat was traced to a mentally disturbed individual who was subsequently taken into custody.
Authorities are treating these incidents seriously, noting the similarities in the threats and the potential for coordinated hoax campaigns. The Cyber Crime Cell and city police are working together to identify the source of these messages. Two individuals from Thiruporur and Maduravoyal have already been arrested in connection with similar cases involving threats to public figures.
While all the threats so far have turned out to be false alarms, the repeated incidents have raised concerns over the safety and privacy of celebrities. Ilaiyaraaja’s legal team is coordinating with authorities to strengthen security measures ahead of his upcoming public appearances.
