Collectors and fashion lovers will have a rare chance this December to bid on a deeply personal piece of fashion history when Jane Birkin’s own black Hermès “Birkin Voyageur” goes to auction in Abu Dhabi during the inaugural Abu Dhabi Collectors’ Week, at the St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort.
This bag isn’t just any Birkin—it is one of only four gifted to Birkin by Hermès, and uniquely bears her handwritten inscriptions and doodles, including the French phrase “Mon Birkin bag qui m’a accompagné dans le monde entier” (“My Birkin bag, my globetrotting companion”). It previously accompanied her from 2003 to 2007 and was rarely seen publicly before now. The auction estimate sits between $240,000 and $440,000, reflecting both its rarity and its intimate connection to Birkin herself.
For UAE-based collectors and international buyers alike, this event marks a key moment in the region’s luxury market—presenting a once-in-a-generation opportunity to own not just a luxury item, but a tangible connection to a cultural icon and the origins of the Birkin legend.
