A woman in her 30s has been formally referred to court after repeatedly targeting actress Han Ji‑min with malicious online messages. Prosecutors in Seoul indicted the woman, identified only as Lee, on charges of intimidation and defamation following an investigation by the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office.
Investigators say Lee posted 19 harmful social‑media messages last September and October. Some of the posts reportedly included threats such as “I will sabotage Han Ji‑min’s movie” and abusive commands like “Shut your mouth,” and the messages tagged the actress and several of her acquaintances. The online harassment is said to have followed media coverage of Han Ji‑min’s relationship with musician Cho Jung‑hoon.
Han Ji‑min’s agency lodged a police complaint in November, and the Gangnam police forwarded the case to prosecutors with a recommendation for indictment. After months of inquiry, the prosecution moved to refer Lee to court; the date for the first hearing has not been announced.
The case highlights the growing use of criminal provisions to address online harassment and the legal consequences of targeted threats and defamation. Prosecutors and police continue to stress that abusive conduct online can lead to serious charges and court action.
