The Grand Egyptian Museum recently hosted a grand cultural ceremony to honour elite readers among Egyptian students, marking significant milestones in the National Reading Programme. The event, held in cooperation with the UAE’s “Scientific Research Investment,” gathered officials, educators, and public figures to celebrate outstanding achievements in promoting functional, creative, and critical reading across Egypt.
Key partners in this initiative include Egypt’s Ministries of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Education, Culture, Youth and Sports, and Al-Azhar Al-Sharif. The programme has impacted millions of students nationwide, fostering a culture of conscious reading and knowledge production.
Al Shamsi, Head of Scientific Research Investment, highlighted the collective pride and ongoing commitment to nurturing a reading society where every boy and girl becomes an integral, literate member. Professor Mustafa Rifaat praised the programme’s role in empowering students and teachers to acquire and generate knowledge creatively.
The ceremony recognised 11 top university students, 5 teachers, and 16 school students selected from millions across Egypt’s governorates and universities. Dr. Salama Dawood, President of Al-Azhar University, called reading “the locomotive of progress” essential for early-stage knowledge creation.
Dr. Iman Hassan, National Reading Programme Coordinator, noted that the event celebrated not just names but the transformative power of reading and knowledge in building a new civilization inspired by Egypt’s glorious heritage.
The ceremony also announced the launch of the programme’s fifth season and unveiled its newly redesigned website, alongside several ambitious cultural initiatives. “Scientific Research Investment” supports various educational and cultural programmes across regions, reflecting a strong commitment to advancing culture and knowledge.
