Sheikh Shakil Indian expat honoured by UAE President — a story that beautifully captures the essence of compassion, humility, and service. Living in Al Ain for over two decades, Sheikh Shakil, a modest cable engineer at TAQA Transmission, never imagined that his quiet acts of charity would one day lead to being personally recognised by His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Shakil’s journey is not defined by wealth or status but by his unshakable belief in consistent giving. Over the years, he has donated to Awqaf Abu Dhabi’s Life Endowment campaign 42 times, supporting patients battling chronic illnesses. His approach to charity is grounded in sincerity: “Giving is not about how much you have, but how much you care,” he shared with heartfelt humility.
At a recognition ceremony at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi, Shakil stood beside other donors—individuals united by compassion and civic duty. For him, meeting the UAE President was a deeply emotional moment. “His warmth and humility reinforced my belief that true leadership is rooted in compassion and service,” Shakil said.
Despite his modest income, this father of three continuously contributes in his and his family’s names. Each donation reflects the values of discipline, consistency, and responsibility — principles that define both his career and his character. His story offers a powerful reminder that generosity is measured not in amount, but in intention.
Originally from Mumbai, Shakil moved to the UAE 21 years ago, seeking stability and opportunity. Today, he calls the UAE home, cherishing its safety, tolerance, and culture of respect. “The UAE gave me and my family a sense of belonging and purpose. It inspires me to give back to the country that has given me so much,” he said.
Shakil was particularly drawn to the Life Endowment initiative because of its sustainable approach to healthcare charity. The campaign funds treatment for patients who cannot afford care, aligning with his personal belief that healthcare is one of the most impactful forms of giving. “Helping someone regain their health restores dignity and hope,” he noted.
Awqaf Abu Dhabi highlighted Shakil’s contributions not for their size, but for their meaning. His story embodies the essence of the campaign — showing that every act of giving counts and collectively strengthens the culture of compassion in the UAE.
Humbled by the recognition, Shakil remains as grounded as ever. “If my story encourages even one person to help another, then it has served its purpose,” he said. Through his humble yet extraordinary actions, Sheikh Shakil has shown that kindness, when practiced consistently, can change lives and inspire nations.
