In a surprising turn at the inaugural International League T20 (ILT20) auction held in Dubai, Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin went unsold despite entering with the highest base price of $120,000. No franchise placed a bid for the 37-year-old, who retired from international cricket in December 2024 and stepped away from the Indian Premier League (IPL) in August 2025. This marks his first attempt to enter an overseas T20 league.
The Emirates Cricket Board (ECB)-organized auction allows retired Indian players like Ashwin to participate, as they are no longer bound by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) rules that restrict active players from featuring in foreign leagues.
Despite the initial setback, Ashwin remains eligible for the second round of the auction later in the day, where unsold players have another chance to be picked up. Meanwhile, UAE cricketer Junaid Siddique secured a $170,000 deal with Sharjah Warriorzs, and Muhammad Rohid joined MI Emirates for $140,000.
