An IndiGo flight en route from Kolkata to Srinagar made an emergency landing at Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi on Wednesday after the crew detected a suspected fuel leak mid-air. The aircraft, flight 6E-6961, was carrying 166 passengers and crew members.
Upon noticing irregularities in the fuel system, the pilot promptly contacted Air Traffic Control (ATC) in Varanasi and requested a priority landing. The aircraft touched down safely at approximately 4:10 PM, and all passengers and crew were escorted to the arrival area without incident.
Following the landing, IndiGo’s technical team conducted a thorough inspection of the aircraft. Preliminary reports suggest that a malfunctioning sensor may have triggered a false fuel leak alarm, prompting the precautionary landing. Authorities have not yet confirmed the definitive cause.
IndiGo has arranged for an alternate flight to continue the journey to Srinagar, ensuring minimal disruption for the passengers. The airline emphasized its commitment to passenger safety and thanked the crew and ATC personnel for their swift and coordinated response.
