Nima Sheikh scholarship - Gulf Repost

Pakistan-origin Scottish cricketer Nima Sheikh has made history by becoming the first cricketer in Scotland—male or female—to receive the prestigious Winning Students 100 Scotland National Sports Scholarship. At just 22 years old and currently studying Accountancy and Finance at the University of Glasgow, Sheikh described the recognition as “an honour” and said it will motivate her to balance academic goals with her passion for cricket.

The Winning Students initiative, supported by sportscotland, provides financial assistance and development support to over 1,700 student-athletes across Scotland. With this scholarship, Sheikh will receive mentorship, performance training and the resources she needs to pursue excellence in both her studies and sport.

Since making her international debut for Scotland in 2023, Sheikh has gone on to represent her country in two One-Day Internationals and seven T20 Internationals. The national governing body for cricket hailed her achievement as a significant milestone for the sport in Scotland, pointing to the growing prominence of cricket and the importance of inclusive opportunities for athletes from diverse backgrounds.
