Shreyas Iyer injury in Sydney ODI against Australia has become a major setback for Team India. The vice-captain suffered the injury while completing a superb diving catch to dismiss Alex Carey in the 34th over, landing awkwardly on his left hip and ribs and requiring on-field medical attention. Teammates rushed to his side as he was helped off the field in visible pain, leaving India one player short in the field during a must-win third ODI at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
This incident compounds India’s recent injury woes, with Nitish Kumar Reddy ruled out before the match due to a left quadriceps strain sustained in the second Adelaide ODI. The BCCI has confirmed that Nitish is undergoing daily medical monitoring after his struggles in the last game. Further, Arshdeep Singh was also omitted from the playing XI, having struggled with cramps previously, though no official reason was given for his exclusion.
Captain Shubman Gill had to bring in Prasidh Krishna and Kuldeep Yadav to cover for the missing players, as India’s bench strength is tested ahead of critical fixtures. Shreyas Iyer had been in excellent form, both as a leader and with the bat, making this injury a major concern for the team’s prospects in the ongoing series and upcoming assignments.
