India Prepares to Tackle Spin Bowling as ICC T20 World Cup Super Eight Begins

ICC T20 World Cup

Indian bowling coach Morne Morkel has expressed confidence that the batting line-up will find its rhythm against spin bowling as India enters the Super Eight stage of the ICC T20 World Cup. India’s campaign resumes with a crucial match against South Africa in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 22.

Despite posting strong totals above 190 runs in earlier matches, including a 200-plus score against Namibia, India’s batters, led by skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, have struggled to dominate spinners on slow, turning pitches.

Morkel acknowledged the challenges faced so far: “On the surfaces we played, it wasn’t easy to hit the ball. We found ourselves in trouble in Mumbai, but once we get a platform, we can accelerate in the later overs.” He remains optimistic that the team will soon unlock the key to tackling spin more effectively.

India’s batting woes against spin were evident in matches against the USA and Namibia, where spin bowlers claimed multiple wickets. Conversely, performances against the Netherlands showed promise, with a higher run rate and fewer wickets lost to spin.

The Super Eight fixtures will test India’s ability to adapt as they take on South Africa, Zimbabwe, and West Indies in matches scheduled across Ahmedabad, Chennai, and Kolkata.
