The Abu Dhabi Civil Family Court has ordered a man to pay Dh10,000 in damages following an assault that caused both physical injuries and emotional suffering to the victim. The court acknowledged material damage from the injuries as well as moral harm, including distress and sadness endured by the woman.
The woman had initially sought Dh250,000 in compensation, alongside court fees and legal expenses, basing her civil claim on a previous criminal conviction where the defendant was found guilty of assault.
Invoking article 282 of the Civil Transactions Law, which mandates compensation for any harm caused regardless of intent or capacity, the court determined that the awarded Dh10,000 fairly and sufficiently compensated the victim’s material and moral damages.
The ruling reinforces the legal principle that perpetrators of harm must financially compensate their victims for both tangible and intangible losses, highlighting the Emirate’s commitment to justice and victim rights.
