The reinstatement follows pressure from community groups, Kerala MPs including Shashi Tharoor, and media highlighting the adverse impact of cancellations, especially on flights from Thiruvananthapuram to Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Tharoor confirmed the reinstatement of Dubai flights starting October 28 and Abu Dhabi services from December 3, also noting enhanced business class flights on the Thiruvananthapuram-Delhi route. Travel agencies in the UAE confirmed the resumption of bookings for these routes, which were threatened by the initial cancellations aimed at realigning the airline’s network based on demand. This development offers relief to thousands of expats planning travel during the festive and winter seasons. However, some frequency reductions remain for other airports, and ticket prices are expected to remain high during the holidays due to strong demand. Community leaders view this as a proof of the government’s recognition of NRIs’ contributions and a commitment to secure affordable connectivity for the diaspora.
