Filipina tennis prodigy Alex Eala has achieved a new career-high in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, jumping to World No. 54 after a demanding series of tournaments in China. At just 20 years old, Eala’s resilience and skill have solidified her status as one of Asia’s brightest young tennis stars.
During her China swing, Eala reached the semifinals of the Jingshan Open as the top seed, battled to the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 Suzhou Open with a thrilling three-hour victory, and fought hard in the Wuhan Open qualifiers. Though she narrowly lost in the last event, these strong showings propelled her up the rankings.
Eala’s next challenge is the Japan Open in Osaka, scheduled from October 13 to 19. A strong performance there could see her break into the Top 50, a historic milestone for any Filipina tennis player.
