Dubai Police are rolling out an advanced biometric system involving a 20‑metre walk‑through tunnel fitted with over 25 high‑resolution cameras, designed to identify individuals by their walk. The device captures and processes several biometric markers — including gait (body movement), facial and iris recognition, palm/fingerprint scans, and body measurements — while a person walks through it.
This full-body scanner aims to help identify suspects who try to conceal their identity by wearing masks, gloves, or otherwise hiding from conventional surveillance. It also supports identification even under low‑visibility conditions.
Authorities say the system has already helped solve thousands of cases. In 2022 alone, the Dubai Police used biometric and forensic video evidence — including gait analysis and body measurement — to crack more than 3,200 crimes.
