Born Katherine Patricia Routledge in Birkenhead, England, in 1929, Dame Patricia’s career spanned over six decades, encompassing theatre, television, film, and radio. She made her professional stage debut at the Liverpool Playhouse in 1952 and went on to achieve significant success in London’s West End and on Broadway. Notably, she won a Tony Award in 1968 for her role in Darling of the Day and an Olivier Award in 1988 for her performance in Candide.

Her television career was equally distinguished. Keeping Up Appearances, which aired from 1990 to 1995, became a beloved classic, with Dame Patricia’s portrayal of Hyacinth Bucket earning her two BAFTA nominations and solidifying her status as a household name.
