Tourists Foil Attempt to Flee ₹10,900 Restaurant Bill in Rajasthan

The incident highlights how modern surveillance and digital payment trails can foil traditional “dine‐and‐dash” attempts.

Tourists’ Dine-and-Dash Attempt Foiled in Rajasthan

Five tourists attempted to flee a roadside hotel in Rajasthan without paying a bill of ₹10,900 after dining and drinking at the venue near Mount Abu. The group – four men and one woman from Gujarat – tried a deceptive escape using a restroom‐break ruse, but were intercepted thanks to CCTV, licence‐plate tracking and traffic controls.

According to hotel staff, the group ate and drank at the Happy Day Hotel on the Mount Abu–Ambaji road. When the bill was presented at around 4:30 pm, the guests left their seats one by one, claiming they needed to use the restroom located by the hotel gate. Once outside, they climbed into a waiting car and attempted to drive off.

However, the plan unraveled when the hotel staff reviewed CCTV footage, identified the vehicle registration and alerted local authorities. The escape route was slowed near the Gujarat border due to traffic, allowing hotel staff and local police to intercept the car. At that point the tourists arranged an online payment of the bill to avoid further legal action.

The incident highlights how modern surveillance and digital payment trails can foil traditional “dine‐and‐dash” attempts. For local businesses and travellers alike, it serves as a reminder that bill evasion schemes rarely succeed in an era of CCTV, vehicle tracking and rapid coordination between hotel teams and law enforcement.
