The incident took place in August 2024 in a village in northern Egypt, when the young wife, reportedly hungry and alone at home, served herself food before her husband and his family returned. Upon discovering this, he attacked her with a thick wooden stick, burned her with a hot iron, struck her repeatedly on the head, dragged her to the roof of their building and threw her off. She died hours later in hospital.
In October 2025, the criminal court handed the husband a prison sentence of seven years, drawing sharp criticism from women’s rights advocates.
