Emirates takes proactive steps in 2025 to cut down severe turbulence incidents, leveraging AI and real-time data sharing platforms. The airline has integrated systems such as SkyPath, Lido mPilot, and IATA’s Turbulence Aware platform to enhance weather forecasting and turbulence detection during flights. SkyPath employs AI and machine learning to analyze sensors, transponders, and accelerometers for detecting “clear air” turbulence not visible to radar, while Lido mPilot provides pilots with current global weather insights, including turbulence forecasts, improving situational awareness.

By sharing turbulence reports through IATA’s global platform and participating with over 140 aircraft equipped to relay data, Emirates aims to optimize flight paths, enhance safety, and reduce fuel consumption. The airline’s initiatives have already contributed to a significant reduction in unexpected severe turbulence encounters, reinforcing its commitment to safety and technological innovation in aviation.
