Overnight air strikes carried out by Israeli forces across the Gaza Strip left at least 101 people dead, including 35 children, and dozens more wounded, according to Gaza’s civil defence and hospital officials.
The fatalities were reported within a 12-hour period, with bodies brought to major hospitals in Gaza City and southern Gaza, many of them children and women among the casualties. According to the Israeli government, the strikes were ordered after a soldier was killed in the Rafah area, marking what officials described as a response to a ceasefire violation.
Medical staff and civil defence teams described harrowing scenes at emergency units where the influx of dead and wounded far outpaced their capacity. Many victims were pulled from under rubble in residential and tented displacement-camp areas.
Despite the heavy toll, both parties claim the ceasefire remains in effect, though analysts warn the latest violence may severely weaken the already fragile truce. The international community continues to call for urgent humanitarian access and protection for civilians.
