UAE Cricket Coach Lalchand Rajput Celebrates T20 World Cup Qualification After Dominant Win Over Japan

UAE’s head coach Lalchand Rajput expressed immense pride and satisfaction after leading the national team to qualify for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Securing their place with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Japan in the Asia/East Asia-Pacific Qualifier in Oman, the UAE became the third team to qualify for the upcoming tournament co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, joining Nepal and Oman.

Rajput highlighted qualifying for the World Cup as a primary goal since taking charge in February 2024, and while pleased with the achievement, he expressed a slight disappointment at not finishing top of their group after narrowly losing two close games. Looking ahead, Rajput emphasized the importance of strengthening the middle order and adding all-rounders, while crediting the balanced mix of senior and junior players for the team’s cohesion and success.

The team’s focus now shifts to the 50-over League 2 matches in Dubai and the International League T20 (ILT20), which provides valuable exposure and experience by allowing players to compete alongside international stars. This development will build confidence and prepare the UAE squad to compete strongly in the World Cup slated for February-March 2026.
