Allison Williams is stepping into one of her most emotionally charged performances yet with Regretting You, the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel. In portraying Morgan, a mother navigating the fallout of a family tragedy, Williams shared that the journey of grief in both the book and movie is anything but tidy—it’s messy, raw, and deeply human.
Directed by Josh Boone, the adaptation shifts some settings from the original novel but retains the heart of Hoover’s story. Williams explained that playing Morgan brought the challenge of honoring the character’s interior life—her guilt, anger, and love—for both longtime fans of the book and newcomers. She believes this film doesn’t shy away from the darker shadows of loss but also celebrates healing and connection.
For Williams, Regretting You is more than just a project; it’s about motherhood, forgiveness, and the ways trauma can reshape the bonds between parents and children. She expressed hope that audiences will see themselves in its messiness, finding catharsis and perhaps a deeper understanding of what it means to rebuild after heartache.
With Regretting You adaptation set for release in late 2025, the movie promises to be a poignant tribute both to Hoover’s storytelling and the unpredictable process of grief that so many experience.
