President Donald Trump recently asserted that his administration has resolved eight international conflicts in the past eight months, with five of them settled through the strategic use of trade tariffs.

During a meeting with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese at the White House, where both leaders signed a multi-billion-dollar agreement on critical minerals and defense cooperation, Trump highlighted his unconventional approach to foreign policy. He stated, “We have become a nation that used the power of tariffs and the power of trade to settle five of the eight wars that I settled. I settled eight. I’m very proud of that… I don’t think there’s been an American President that settled one.”

Trump also mentioned that the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine is the final issue he aims to address, acknowledging the complexities involved due to the entrenched positions of both leaders. He remarked, “I have one more to go. It’s Russia-Ukraine and I think we’ll get there. But it’s turned out to be nasty because you have two leaders that truly hate each other.”

Earlier, Trump claimed that his administration’s trade pressure helped avert a potential war between India and Pakistan, describing the situation as being on the brink of a nuclear conflict. He noted that the threat of tariffs played a crucial role in de-escalating tensions between the two nuclear-armed nations.

This approach underscores Trump’s “America First” policy, emphasizing economic leverage as a tool for achieving foreign policy objectives. While his tactics have been met with both support and criticism, they highlight a shift towards using economic measures to influence international relations.
