UAE credit card default laws 2025 are designed to protect both banks and borrowers, but missing credit card payments can have serious financial and legal consequences. If you miss three consecutive or six non-consecutive monthly payments, under UAE Central Bank regulations, your account is considered in default, making the entire balance immediately due.
Banks can deposit your security cheque to recover dues and may initiate legal proceedings under Federal Decree-Law No. 50 of 2022. If the outstanding debt exceeds Dh10,000, courts may impose travel bans under the Civil Procedure Code to prevent you from leaving the country until dues are settled.
Travel bans are not automatic; banks must prove debt seriousness, and courts decide on issuing bans. A ban may be lifted if you settle the debt, provide bank guarantees, or if the bank fails to enforce the case timely.
Early communication with your bank is key. You can request debt restructuring, defer interest, or penalty waivers. For serious cases, the UAE Insolvency Law allows legal debt restructuring without criminal penalties.
Ignoring debts may lead to civil suits, asset seizures, salary deductions, and prolonged travel bans. Always keep payment records and consult legal counsel to explore your rights and options.
