From November 1, 2025, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Sharjah Police are enforcing tougher rules for delivery motorcycles, heavy vehicles, and buses on major roads to curb accidents and promote safety amid surging delivery demand.

In Dubai, delivery riders are banned from using high-speed lanes on roads with 3+ lanes: prohibited from the two leftmost lanes on roads with five or more lanes, and the leftmost lane on roads with three or four lanes. Smaller roads with two lanes or fewer remain unrestricted. Repeat lane violations face escalating fines: Dh500 for the first offense, Dh700 for the second, and possible permit suspension on the third. Speeding over 100 km/h incurs fines starting at Dh200, increasing for repeated offenses. New signage indicates banned lanes, backed by digital surveillance and field checks.

Sharjah introduces a lane management system requiring heavy vehicles and buses to use the far-right lane, while motorcycles—including delivery bikes—must stay in designated middle or right lanes depending on road size. Enforcement uses smart radars, HD cameras, and 24/7 traffic patrols. Fines of up to Dh1,500 and black points apply for heavy vehicle lane violations, with Dh500 fines for ignoring signs or traffic instructions.

These measures are part of UAE’s five-year traffic safety plan focused on enforcement, road engineering, and awareness campaigns to reduce fatal delivery-related accidents.
