Resilience—the innate ability to recover from challenges—is a natural gift that must be nurtured through education, UAE experts emphasized during the ‘Grit Factor’ session at Gulf News Edufair Dubai 2025.

Dr Christopher Abraham, CEO and Head of Dubai Campus at SP Jain School of Global Management, explained that resilience is biologically embedded in all humans. Despite facing personal and professional challenges, individuals can overcome setbacks if they nurture this ability properly. Dr Abraham stressed that external negativity can weaken resilience, leading to learned helplessness, but affirmed, “We are not cut out to fail. We are cut out for success.”

Addressing cultural expectations of perfection, he cited Michael Jordan as an example, noting that failure is integral to growth and should be celebrated.

Omer Khan, Admission Team Leader at Jaipur National University, underlined the role of parents in fostering resilience without harmful comparisons. He highlighted the importance of guiding children toward future-ready fields such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, beyond traditional career paths.

Dr Abraham advocated for embracing STEAM education, which integrates humanities and arts with STEM, encouraging lifelong learning through “learn, unlearn, and relearn.”
