The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA-Dubai) and Awqaf Dubai have signed a landmark agreement enabling waqf donors, also known as endowers, to obtain the prestigious UAE Golden Visa under the new category of “financial supporters of humanitarian work.” This initiative aligns with Dubai’s deep commitment to embedding humanitarian and charitable activities within its social and development framework.
Lieutenant General Mohammed Ahmed Al Marri, Director General of GDRFA-Dubai, described the partnership as a pioneering government integration model empowering endowers to play a vital role in community development. The agreement supports Dubai’s vision of fostering sustainability, social solidarity, and a culture of shared responsibility. Ali Mohammed Al Mutawa, Secretary General of Awqaf Dubai, highlighted that the collaboration advances Dubai’s waqf culture and encourages increased participation in charitable initiatives.
Under this scheme, Awqaf Dubai will nominate eligible resident and non-resident endowers per the criteria outlined in Cabinet Resolution No. (65) of 2022, and GDRFA-Dubai will issue the Golden Visa residency permits based on these nominations. A joint committee will oversee the initiative’s implementation and social impact to ensure its humanitarian objectives are achieved.
This strategic collaboration reinforces Dubai’s standing as a global hub for tolerance, generosity, and human-centred innovation, embedding humanitarian giving into everyday life and promoting a seamless digital ecosystem as highlighted by the GITEX 2025 theme.
