UAE labour dispute index shows the nation leading the world with the lowest rate of labor disputes, as confirmed by the 2024 IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook. The country’s Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization (MoHRE) resolved approximately 98% of labor complaints—including those from private sector and domestic workers—without resorting to court proceedings during the first half of 2024, streamlining processes for over 175,000 cases.

MoHRE’s approach focuses on case simplification, impartial investigation by legal experts, and promoting amicable settlements, which not only saves time and cost for workers and employers but also improves overall competitiveness. On average, only three complaints per 100 workers are lodged in the UAE market—a testament to robust dispute resolution frameworks and effective protections.

Recent procedural and legislative updates have further accelerated the time required to resolve labor complaints, maintaining strict confidentiality and transparency. MoHRE now has jurisdiction over claims up to Dh50,000 and cases where no suit is filed within 15 days after notification—helping speed up rightful claim settlement and drastically reducing litigation burdens.

The Ministry is legally required to resolve labor complaints within 14 days, either by amicable settlement, a binding final decision, or court referral for larger disputes. Parties have clear appeal options and work permit arrangements following decisions. These improvements—credited to Federal Decree-Law No. 33 and its amendments—support a competitive labor environment and ensure fair protection of employer and employee rights.
