Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum has unveiled the UAE Volunteering and Community Engagement Ecosystem, a national initiative comprising 8 strategic programs to promote volunteerism and empower the nonprofit sector. The ecosystem aligns with the Year of Community 2025 and sets ambitious goals including growing the volunteer base to 600,000 and expanding licensed nonprofit organizations by 30%, supported by a Dh100 million empowerment fund and a unified digital platform, Volunteers.ae 2.0.
The strategy features two main tracks: one to embed a culture of volunteering through the National Volunteering Strategy, “7 Over 7” campaign encouraging skill-based volunteering across all Emirates, and “Your Time Counts” initiative linking voluntary government leave to performance standards; and another to empower nonprofit organizations via the One Stop Shop digital platform, Nonprofit Sector Launchpad incubator, and leadership programs aimed at creating future nonprofit leaders.
Implemented under the Ministry of Community Empowerment with partnerships from Emirates Foundation and various public and private entities, the ecosystem aspires to position the UAE among the top three countries in the World Giving Index and foster long-term social cohesion and community development.
