Whycation travel trend UAE-Saudi 2025 is reshaping how Gulf residents explore the world, prioritizing emotional and purposeful experiences over traditional destination-focused trips. According to Hilton’s 2026 Trends Report, travelers from the UAE and Saudi Arabia are at the forefront of this global shift, designing holidays aimed at rest, re-connection, and cultural immersion.
With 66% of UAE and 65% of Saudi travelers making efforts to learn local languages before visiting new destinations, these “whycations” highlight a desire for authentic cultural experiences. Additionally, around 81% of UAE and 78% of Saudi residents visit local grocery stores abroad to connect with daily life, reflecting a deeper engagement with local communities.
Technology also plays a vital role, with approximately 75% relying on AI-assisted planning tools for seamless, stress-free itineraries. Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok heavily influence travel choices, encouraging purpose-driven, tech-enabled journeys.
Guy Hutchinson, President of Hilton Middle East and Africa, notes that this trend “reflects travel that resonates not only with destinations but also with the values of the travelers themselves,” positioning the UAE and Saudi Arabia as leaders in transformative travel trends.
