While flight operations continued uninterrupted, the incident has triggered scrutiny of ground-support safety procedures at major airports.

A ground service bus operated by AI SATS Airport Services, working for Air India, caught fire at Bay 32 of Terminal 3 at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) in New Delhi — just metres away from an aircraft.
Fortunately, no one was injured as the bus was empty when the fire broke out. Airport fire and rescue teams responded immediately, putting out the flames before they could spread to nearby aircraft or ground equipment.
Preliminary reports suggest that an electrical short circuit may have triggered the blaze. Authorities are now reviewing maintenance procedures, equipment logs, and airside safety regulations to determine how the vehicle ended up parked so close to an aircraft.
Though flight operations continued without interruption, experts have raised serious concerns about ground safety at major airports. The near-miss serves as a reminder of the importance of strict ground handling protocols — a few seconds’ delay could have turned this into a far greater tragedy.
