Abu Dhabi court compensation electric shock worker case highlights the court’s ruling ordering an entity to pay Dh75,000 in material and moral damages to the family of a worker who died on duty from an electric shock. The Civil Family Court found negligence in supervision and safety oversight contributed to the fatal incident.
The heirs had originally sought Dh350,000 in damages after the worker’s death, claiming the defendant’s failure to enforce proper safety measures led to the accident. Earlier, a criminal court convicted the entity, fining it Dh10,000 and ordering Dh200,000 in blood money (diyah) to the victim’s family.
The civil court clarified that paying blood money does not prevent additional claims for damages. Compensation covers material losses such as financial support and moral damages for grief and emotional suffering. The court also ordered coverage of legal fees, court expenses, and attorney charges. The Dh75,000 will be distributed according to Islamic inheritance law.
This ruling reinforces the importance of stringent workplace safety measures and provides justice to the family affected by the tragic loss.
