Athulya Sekhar death Sharjah investigation remains a high-profile case following the tragic discovery of the 29-year-old Indian expat in her Rolla apartment on July 19, 2025—her 30th birthday and the day she was to start a new job. Hours before her death, Athulya reportedly sent a voice message to her sister detailing years of abuse by her husband, Satheesh Sankar.
Kerala’s Principal Sessions Court revoked Satheesh Sankar’s anticipatory bail on September 29, 2025, leading to his surrender to the Kerala Crime Branch. The court cited multiple pieces of evidence, including videos reportedly showing Satheesh verbally and physically abusing Athulya while intoxicated, plus numerous injuries documented in a re-postmortem confirming strangulation as the cause of death—raising questions regarding the initial suicide ruling in Sharjah.
Satheesh faces multiple charges under Indian law, including cruelty to women, voluntarily causing hurt, grievous hurt with dangerous weapons, dowry harassment, wrongful restraint, and abetting suicide. The couple’s 10-year-old daughter currently resides with Athulya’s parents in Kerala.
The case has garnered considerable media attention across India and the UAE, highlighting concerns over domestic violence and the safety of expatriates. Investigators continue to await full postmortem details from UAE authorities as they pursue justice amid growing public outrage and demands for accountability.
