The Bangladeshi passport has dropped three places in the 2025 Henley & Partners Global Passport Index, now sharing the 100th rank with North Korea, officials confirmed on October 15, 2025. This shift highlights growing challenges for Bangladeshi citizens seeking visa-free mobility abroad.
Under the new ranking, Bangladeshi passport holders are granted visa-free or visa-on-arrival access to 38 destinations, down from 39 in the prior ranking. The decline in both ranking and access indicates a contraction in diplomatic travel privileges over the past year.
Historically, Bangladesh’s passport has fluctuated in strength: from 97th in 2024, to 101st in 2023, and 103rd in 2022. The downward trend underscores how global mobility for its citizens is being squeezed amid geopolitical and immigration pressures.
Experts note that passport strength is not just symbolic — it directly affects travel costs, convenience, and access to international opportunities. For Bangladeshi travelers, this ranking slide could mean more visa applications, higher processing fees, and greater scrutiny at borders.
Regional peers fare similarly: Nepal now ranks just below at 101st, and Pakistan trails at 103rd. Meanwhile, countries like Singapore and Japan continue to dominate the top tier, offering access to well over 180 visa-free destinations.
The latest data serves as a sobering reminder of how global mobility is shifting — where diplomatic relations, security policies, and international agreements play a central role in determining how freely a citizen can travel.
