Trade city lights for mountain air this season — the UAE offers a remarkable set of hiking trails that even complete beginners can enjoy. With a mix of desert oases and scenic mountain loops, these seven routes are easy enough to tackle without breaking a sweat and beautiful enough to make your Instagram pop. Lace up your shoes, fill up that water bottle, and turn your winter weekends into mini adventures.
Just a 30-minute drive from Downtown Dubai, this 10-kilometre loop in Mushrif Park is mostly flat and sandy, making it ideal for first-time hikers. You’ll enjoy pockets of shade, quirky sculptures along the way, and a forest-meets-desert feel that’ll surprise you.
Located about 50 minutes out of the city, the Al Qudra Lakes offer an easy walking trail along the lake banks. As the sun rises or sets, the light transforms the desert into something magical. Note: much of the path is fully exposed, so sun protection is a must.
About an hour’s drive from Dubai, this beginner-friendly loop starts at Shawka Dam with a climb up a cement staircase, then flows down through sandy and rocky paths to natural pools. Hikers can pick their route length from an 8-kilometre network — ideal for a relaxed but scenic trek.
This 6-kilometre round-trip trail atop Al Rabi Mountain offers panoramic 360-degree views — rugged Hajar Mountains on one side, the Gulf of Oman on the other. With gentle inclines and marked paths, it’s beginner-friendly but enormously rewarding.
Tucked away yet visually stunning, this 8.4-kilometre loop winds through milky-blue pools, lush palms, indoor-oasis vibes and salt-clustered stones — unexpected in the UAE. It’s an easy but rich hiking experience especially after rainfall.
Find yourself at 1,640 meters above sea level on this 4-kilometre one-way trail starting from the Viewing Deck Park on Jebel Jais. Fully marked and beginner-friendly, you’ll soak in panoramic mountain views without needing hardcore hiking gear.
Around 1.5 hours from Dubai, this trail is a weekend escape filled with lush greenery in winter, natural pools, old heritage ruins, and surprising tranquility. It’s an easy-going trail whose mix of nature and history makes it deeply satisfying.
