A Family Legacy Rooted in Gujarat

Owner Parimal Joshi shares the story of Bhavna, which began with his father and uncle, farmers from Porbandar, Gujarat, who arrived in Dubai in 1976. Recognizing a shortage of genuine Gujarati vegetarian cuisine, they opened their first restaurant, welcoming locals and expatriates alike. Since then, public response has remained consistently warm.

Signature Dishes That Stand the Test of Time

From the very beginning, poori bhaaji has been the star dish, accompanied by samosas, Gujarati thalis, and soft phulka chapatis. Over five decades, while variations and recipes have evolved, the essence of “home-cooked” flavor has never changed. Joshi attributes the brand’s long-standing success to a simple principle: “Eat well, and feed well.”

The restaurant’s appeal goes beyond the Indian community, attracting Pakistani and Nepali patrons as regulars. Some families have been visiting for generations, with many returning to relive the taste of their first meal in Dubai.

From its modest beginnings near Dubai Museum with just a few staff members, Bhavna Restaurant Dubai grew into multiple branches across the UAE, becoming a popular meeting point for families and friends. Today, the Al Fahidi Street branch remains the heart of the brand, with Parimal Joshi’s 75-year-old father still leading by example, arriving early each day to keep the tradition alive. Alongside this growth, Bhavna holds a deep connection to the city’s past. Joshi recalls the Dubai of the 80s and 90s—free parking, cheaper petrol, abra rides for just 25 fils, and vast open spaces where children played. While modern comforts like air conditioning have transformed daily life, the nostalgia of old Dubai lingers within Bhavna’s walls, making it not just a restaurant, but a living memory of the city’s journey.
