Astronomers have captured striking images of Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) as it brightens ahead of its close approach to Earth this October. Discovered earlier this year by the Mount Lemmon Survey, the comet was first spotted on January 3, 2025, when it was faint and distant.
Over recent weeks, the comet’s brightness has surged, climbing from a faint magnitude to levels visible through binoculars — and potentially to the naked eye, depending on sky conditions.
Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) is expected to make its closest pass by Earth on October 21, 2025, coming within about 89 million kilometers. Its perihelion—closest approach to the Sun—is forecast on November 8, 2025.
