The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has initiated pilot trials of autonomous vehicles in select areas of the city, marking a crucial step towards the anticipated commercial launch scheduled for the first quarter of 2026.
The pilot trials are currently underway in areas such as Jumeirah and Dubai Silicon Oasis. These trials involve a fleet of autonomous vehicles operated by global technology partners, including Baidu’s Apollo Go, Pony.ai, and WeRide. The vehicles are equipped with advanced sensors and artificial intelligence to navigate the city’s roads safely and efficiently.
The RTA has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with leading autonomous vehicle companies to bring this vision to fruition. These collaborations aim to integrate cutting-edge technology into Dubai’s transportation network, enhancing the overall mobility experience for residents and visitors alike.
Safety is a top priority during these trials. While the vehicles operate autonomously, safety drivers are present to monitor performance and intervene if necessary.
