Electric Fleet at Jebel Ali Port

DP World electric fleet at Jebel Ali Port expansion is a landmark development in sustainable port operations. The company has increased its electric internal terminal vehicle (eITV) fleet from 14 vehicles to 146 vehicles within a year, making it one of the largest electric port fleets in the Middle East.

This expansion is expected to reduce diesel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by more than 10%, equivalent to removing approximately 2,255 passenger cars from Dubai’s roads each year. The upgraded fleet combines 35 diesel vehicles retrofitted to electric power by DP World’s in-house engineering teams and over 100 new eITVs sourced globally.

Supporting infrastructure includes a network of rapid-charging stations enabling uninterrupted operations. Additionally, DP World introduced 11 electric empty container handlers to improve terminal yard efficiency.

Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and Managing Director of DP World GCC, emphasized that electrifying port operations aligns with the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 ambitions and strengthens sustainable, resilient supply chains.

With maritime shipping responsible for around 3% of global transport emissions, DP World’s move highlights Dubai’s role as a regional leader in green port technology and low-carbon trade facilitation.
